Nicholson cops Raiders team-mates video messaging prank

FORMER Australia international Josh Morris has claimed Matty Nicholson was the victim of a video message prank by his Canberra Raiders team-mates.

England second row Nicholson recently signed up to the app Swysh, which allows fans to pay players from rugby league and other sports to record personalised video messages.

But, speaking in his What Caught J-Moz’s Eye section of the 2GB Continuous Call Team’s Wednesday show, Morris explained how the former Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves forward’s first request was not all which met the eye.

“It is a classic stitch-up,” Morris said. “Matty Nicholson has told a few of the Raiders boys that he’s jumped on Swysh, now Tom Starling has got word of this and texted him off a different number saying ‘My wife loves you, she calls you ‘Matty Muffins’, it’s her birthday coming up, you’re her favourite player, can you send her a Swysh?’

“He was waiting and waiting for one and he finally got one, and he told all the boys ‘this Swysh request, I’ve got it’. So he’s gone out and done it and the boys are waiting for him to send it through, and he finally sends it through.

“All the boys are in on this, they’ve seen it and thought it was absolutely hillarious, Starling has doubled down and given the video to [Raiders head coach] Ricky [Stuart] and at their captain’s run when they’ve done the video preview, Ricky has gone ‘right, I’ve just got one little thing’ and put up the video of him saying ‘hey, it’s Matty Muffins, your favourite player’ – and then proceeding to sing Happy Birthday.

“That’s one of the better stitch-ups I’ve heard.”

Nicholson is far from the first public figure to be pranked using the sites where they are paid to record personalised message and will not be the last either.

If, for some reason, you feel the need to get a personalised video message for you or a significant other from the 22-year-old then you can do so via Swysh for £35.

Other English rugby league players past and present on Swysh include Josh Charnley (£40), Matty Ashton, Dom Young (both £50), James Graham (for the oddly-specific sum of £37) and Herbie Farnworth, who has apparently proven so popular that his messages were listed as ‘sold out’ at the time of writing.

Or, for £25, Nicholson could prank Tom Starling as payback.
