THERE will be no return to promotion and relegation at the end of the next Super League season.

That was the main news to come out of a meeting of the Rugby Football League clubs council in Wakefield today (Tuesday).

A statement issued after the gathering said IMG gradings would decide who was in the elite competition but that catchment area rankings would be scrapped with performance and finance instead becoming more important.

Clubs with no Super League ambitions could ‘opt out’ of being graded, it was announced, with only two divisions being contested next year, down from three.

And Nigel Wood was confirmed as the chairman of the RFL, as well as holding the same post at Rugby League Commercial.
