GEORGE Williams is in a race against time to play for Warrington Wolves again after it was confirmed he will need surgery on a neck injury.
The halfback suffered the injury in last week’s 38-22 defeat away to Catalans Dragons in Super League and Wolves head coach Sam Burgess confirmed ahead of Friday’s clash with Wigan warriors that Williams will undergo surgery on it.
The 31-year-old is due to return to the NRL at the end of this season with the Dolphins, but still aims to put on the primrose and blue before finally bowing out – as well as represent England at the Rugby League World Cup in October and November.

“I’m praying with everything I’ve got,” Williams told Sky Sports.
“It wouldn’t be a good way to go out and that’s why it was so tough to take.
“I’ll be racing against the clock to get back and hopefully I can play here again – and then back in the white clothes.”
Williams admitted he did not initially think the injury was as severe as it turned out to be, having been ruled out for an indefinite period even before it was confirmed he would need surgery.
The results of the scan therefore came as something of a shock to him, but his focus is now on getting back on the field as soon as possible.
“I didn’t think it would be as serious as it was, but I went for a scan and no good news,” Williams said.
“I’ve had a couple of days to process it and I’m disappointed.
“But I’ll get surgery now and hopefully getting back at the end of the year.”
