SUPER League and Rugby League Commercial want more money from the NRL and will keep negotiations going with the Australasian competition about a potential partnership.
The Super League clubs met in Wakefield today and Rugby League Commercial was instructed to tell NRL officials that they would not accept their initial AUS$60 million offer, but are keen to keep talking.
rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands the meeting was positive, and the clubs support finding a way of working with the NRL.
It is believed a balance will need to be struck on how much money is offered compared with how much control is given over to the NRL.
The Super League clubs are seeking further clarification from the NRL on its offer, including exactly how much cash Rugby League Commercial and each club will receive under its proposal.
The clubs and Rugby League Commercial are expected to meet again in a week.
According to sources down under, Sydney Roosters owner Nick Politis is providing counsel to NRL officials on the talks.
It has been suggested that the NRL is considering funding the difference between Super League’s TV broadcasting deal, which provides £1.3 million a year to each club apart from York and Toulouse, and its salary cap, currently set at £2.1 million, in return for management rights and the opportunity to grow the competition in the future.
