PENRITH kingpin Nathan Cleary has been charged for attacking the legs of a kicker during the finals series win over Sydney Roosters – but will face no suspension.
The news from the match review committee in Sydney means Cleary will be free to play in the preliminary final against Newcastle or the Warriors in a fortnight.
The half’s father, Panthers coach Ivan Cleary, earlier ridiculed any suggestion of a ban.
Cleary junior was charged with grade one dangerous contact which means he’ll only cop a $1000 fine.
The 28-year-old’s next headache is a foot injury which saw him hobbled back from kicking what looked like the winning field goal in the 19-12 success on Sunday at Allianz Stadium.
The club said in a statement: “Cleary sustained a stress-related bone issue in his foot during Sunday afternoon’s qualifying final victory over the Sydney Roosters.
“Cleary will continue to be assessed and monitored by the Panthers medical team.”
Fullback Dylan Edwards, who scored a try on Sunday, braved a similar injury during the 2021 finals series.
