Warrington halfback George Williams has described Hull KR as a “champion team”, but says the Wolves are feeling confident ahead of their Super League semi-final clash today.
Warrington will host the Robins, Super League’s defending champions, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in a knock-out playoff. The two sides have met three times already this year, with Hull KR winning in the Challenge Cup semi-final in May and the Wire emerging victorious twice in the league.
Warrington finished third on the table, while their opponents finished sixth.
“Hull KR have been a little bit inconsistent, but I think we’re saying that because they’ve been so good over the last two years,” Williams told rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads.
“They’re still a champion team. They don’t do what they’ve done over the last couple of years [if they weren’t].
“They’re a good team and they’ve not had too many changes within that.
“So we know they’re a champion team, but, without being arrogant, but we’re feeling confident. I’m sure Hull KR are saying the same thing.”
Williams believes being able to play in front of their home fans is an advantage for the Wire.
“I’m excited, I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.
“We’ve got the home crowd, which is always, you’d like to think, positive. So finishing third gives us that little chance to play at home in front of our fans, to head to a semi.
“It’s exciting times; these are the games you want to be a part of.”
Tonight’s fixture will also be Williams’ last appearance at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, before he leaves the club to head to the NRL.
The 31-year-old has spent the past five years at Warrington, playing in more than 100 games for the Wolves.
“Yeah I was thinking about that on Thursday, obviously, training there, that it’ll be the last home game for me on Saturday.
“It’s kind of almost come around quick, but yeah here it is.”
Warrington are without Toa Sipley, Adam Holroyd, and Jordy Crowther for the semi-final, with Ewan Irwin making his return.
Hull KR have named a full-strength squad for the match, with the only absentee Jordan Dezaria.
