JESSE Southwell scored 44 points and Jamie Chapman six tries as Australia set a new record scoreline for a women’s international and a men’s or women’s World Cup match.

The 124-6 win was just two points short of the all-time record for a men’s or women’s international, 120-0 for France over Serbia-Montenegro. But it beat the most points scored in a men’s or women’s rugby league international by two, set when Denmark beat Sweden 122-0 in 2012.

But Wales scored a try when trailing Australia 100-0, to delight the crowd at CommBank Stadium in the first match of the World Cup triple-header.

There are games where there records tumble and then there are this final pool game, when the Jillaroos ran up their biggest halftime score, their biggest winning score and their biggest total.

The tally was also an all-time World Cup record for men or women, eclipsing the win of Australian men over Russia, 110-4 at Hull in 2000.

Five-eighth Jesse Southwell kicked 14 consecutive conversions before missing one, also a record.
