Exclusive: Sheffield Eagles director Mark Hannigan has refuted speculation he was set to quit the Championship side, insisting he is staying put.

Hannigan has been a director of the club since 2016 and currently serves as operations director.

The Eagles have endured a difficult season in 2025, finishing 10th and winning just six games. Mark Aston departed the club last month and a fortnight ago John Whaling rejoined Sheffield as director of commercial operations.

On September 2 the Eagles announced a restructure of senior leadership. There has been speculation that Hannigan would be leaving his role, to which he has denied.

“I am not going anywhere,” he told rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads.

“I am committed and looking forward to 2026 with the Sheffield Eagles as well as the work I am fortunate enough to do with Sheffield FC.”

Hannigan has been a vocal point of negative criticism from some Eagles supporters in recent weeks, with comments made both online and at matches.

There have been allegations made about altercations between fans and club staff at a recent game. It is believed Hannigan was not involved in those altercations.

“I would also like to state that the vast majority of the Sheffield Eagles fan base has been amazing and the messages and emails of support I have received from them is massively appreciated,” Hannigan said.
