It’s better to kick-off in golden point, says Hudson Young

CANBERRA went from faders back to Raiders in overtime last Saturday against Manly – and it was down to a call Hudson Young had been long contemplating.

“I’ve always wanted to do one of those tosses,” the Australia Test star told ABC Radio.

“And I’ve always said ‘if I get a opportunity I want to defend first because I feel like you can really go after them in your defence and have a crack in the first set, which we did.”

Canberra were well behind at halftime, Young saying: “It was something like 120 tackles to maybe 18 or something … we just spoke about trying to even that up.”

The Raiders are away to the Warriors on Friday night.

It was a bitter result for former Raiders half Jamal Fogarty, his replacement Ethan Sanders kicking the winning field goal.

“It’s a good way to start the season – it’s only round one,” Fogarty said of the Sea Eagles’ wet-sail finish to regulation time.

“The main thing for us as a club is we’ve got to have fun, right? We signed up as little fellas to make sure we’ve having fun and we’re playing a style that reflects that.

“I got my mum and dad, kids down (to 4 Pines Park) and a couple of family members from Queensland.”

Manly hosts Newcastle this Sunday.
