NEW London Broncos owner Darren Lockyer says the club will spend up to the salary cap next year, whether or not it is in Super League.

The Broncos have confirmed an application to join an expanded 14-team top division next year and Jason Demitriou has been confirmed as coach for the next three seasons.

In an interview with rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads the former Australia captain was asked whether the club might limit its spending if it fails to win promotion via an independent panel next month.

“I think it’s important that the coach gets a roster that he thinks he can win with, right?” Lockyer said.

“So we’d definitely be looking to spend the cap.

“I mean, you’ve got to be obviously prudent with your money and make good decisions because while the revenue streams are there, there’s a lot of costs involved in running a football … in a rugby league club.

“But, yeah, we’d be, you know, spending the cap, but we’d be doing it, you know, in a way that is prudent.”
