Exclusive: Oldham RLFC are closing in on signing Salford prop Jack Ormondroyd and fullback Ryan Brierley.

rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands Oldham could announce the signings of Ormondroyd and Brierley either today or tomorrow.

The Championship club’s interest in Salford skipper Ryan Brierley has been well documented, but they are also after his teammate Ormondroyd.

The Red Devils are crumbling because of extensive financial issues, and allegations of pension money owed to players has been the last straw for many of the club’s squad.

Matty Foster is expected to join Leeds, Joe Shorrocks and Ethan Ryan could also depart this week, while Oldham are seeking to land Ormondroyd and Brierley.

Some of Salford’s coaching staff could even possibly depart this week, sources have suggested.

Ormondroyd has been one of Salford’s best during their difficult season.

The 33-year-old started his career at Featherstone in 2015 before spending two seasons at Leeds in 2017-2018.

He rejoined Rovers for the 2019 campaign before his move to Salford in 2020.

The forward has made more than 100 appearances for the club in the past five years.

This season Ormondroyd has played 19 games, averaging 7.7 carries, 49.89 metres and 32.57 tackles per match.

Already Tim Lafai, Nene Macdonald, Marc Sneyd, Kallum Watkins, Chris Hill, Chris Hankinson, Deon Cross, Brad Singleton, Chris Atkin and Sam Stone have exited Salford.

rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands the club currently only has 14 players available for this Sunday’s game against Hull FC and will require loan players from other Super League sides, otherwise, the match will be forfeited.

The RFL have been approached for comment.
