WILL Pryce is relishing trying to match the high expectations on him and Hull FC following his mid-season return to the Betfred Super League.

The 23-year-old has made seven appearances for the Black and Whites since moving back to these shores at the end of March after 18 months with Newcastle Knights, with the most recent seeing him help them to a 26-12 win away to Leigh Leopards in Thursday’s Round 12 opener.

That victory over Super League’s third-placed side saw John Cartwright’s side end a run of four straight defeats and move back into the play-off spots, and while Pryce admitted it has been hard at times, he could not be happier with where he has landed.

“For me, it’s been tough,” Pryce told BBC Five Live Sports Extra. “I obviously didn’t get a pre-season over here with the boys and it’s been hard work.

“It’s pressure, but I want to be in those pressure situations. If you’ve got pressure, it means you’ve got high expectations.

“I’m coming into a team with a new spine and a new group of boys, and they’re looking after me out there.

“I’m just doing my best to put together some good performances for these boys and this coach and the fans of this club, who are unbelievable.”

Pryce lined up at fullback against Leigh in the absence of Jordan Rapana, and was on hand to provide an assist for one of Hull FC’s four tries along with busting six tackles and making one clean break, according to Opta’s stats.

The former Huddersfield Giants player has played primarily in the No 1 role since joining Hull FC but can, like his father Leon did, operate in the halves as well.

For his part, Pryce is happy to slot in wherever he can get his hands on the ball the most and credited the likes of former New Zealand international Rapana for helping him settle into life at the MKM Stadium.

“Jordan is really helping me focus on bettering my game,” Pryce said.

“Having players like John Asiata and Aidan Sezer around me, experienced boys who can help me better my game, I’m absolutely loving it here.

“I feel like this move, coming back home and in Hull around a club which is building, are ambitious and with players who are ambitious is everything I’ve ever wanted.

“I’m really happy at the moment.”
