WAKEFIELD coach Daryl Powell says Super League this year is “chaotic” and “mad” as a result of new refereeing interpretations.

Speaking after his side’s 14-10 win over Hull FC at DIY Kitchens Stadium, Powell said new refereeing interpretations aimed at speeding up the ruck were taking a while to bed down.

“The game’s changed, there’s no doubt about it,” said Powell.

“The interpretations have changed the game a little bit and everyone’s getting used to it really – referees as well as players so it’s … the game itself swings as a result.

“The game’s just chaotic, it’s mad.”

Powell said the Melbourne-Parramatta NRL game on Thursday gave him hope the situation would not last.

He explained: “I watched the Australian game this morning, Melbourne and Parramatta, and it looks like… they’ve obviously been playing to these rules and refereeing these rules for a fair while … or interpretations … and it just looks a bit calmer.”
