England coach Shaun Wane believes the belief and grit that his players have, which he claims no other country has, will help them to a history-making Ashes series win.

England take on Australia in the first Ashes Test this Saturday at Wembley. England or Great Britain has not beaten the Kangaroos since 2006, nor claimed the Ashes since 1970.

But Wanes insists his team has the desire to reclaim the Ashes after a 55-year drought.

“We’re England, we do things different,” he told the Rivalry Reignited podcast.

“That belief that English people have, that grit, what we have no other country has.

“When it comes to 13 on 13 at Wembley, it’s who wants it the most. I know from what the meetings that we’ve had, the desire to do something different, to be in the history books forever, is really high.

“Not just off me, but the belief in the players and the need to make sure they’re going to be mentioned in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years.

“That we was the team. That desire is so strong it’s untrue.”

The Kangaroos have named their team for Saturday’s game, with England’s to be announced on Thursday.

More than 54,000 tickets have been sold for Wembley.
