YORK Knights are interested in returning to the Netherlands next year and taking on Hull KR again in the ‘Amsterdam Challenge’.
The two clubs meet in a pre-season match in January 2025 at the NRCA Stadium, with 2,715 fans watching the Knights defeat the Robins 26-12.
Hull KR were unable to continue the pre-season fixture this year, with the club’s trip to Las Vegas next month, but York have signalled their intent to return to Amsterdam in 2027.
“We’re super keen for it,” York chairman Clint Goodchild told rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads.
“We thought it was a great exhibition of the game and taking it to new markets is really important.
“In some ways, we really admire the way Hull KR got about their business. It was nice to see how they actually run a matchday and be a part of it.
“We’d jump at the chance to do it again with a club of that calibre. Fingers crossed after they do Vegas this year it comes back on the radar and we can approach it then.”
The fixture attracted the biggest crowd for a rugby league game in the country and included fan parties in the city and work by the foundations in schools in Amsterdam.
“The Dutch association got on board, the facility was nice, the travelling fanbases travelled really well,” Goodchild said.
“I loved it. In 2027 – We’d love to do it.”
