CO-CAPTAIN Jacob Saifiti says his Newcastle’s forwards let down debutant Wilson De Courcey, who will learn from his shaky debut on Sunday.

The 20-year-old centre picked a difficult game in which to make his bow as the Knights were out-gunned 42-22 at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday and missed a number of tackles.

“We’ve all been there before,” Saifiti told ABC Radio. “My first year, I was … dramas for me.

“He’ll grow from this but us older boys, we can give him confidence. If we had rocked up and done our job in the middle, he doesn’t see stuff like that.

“Us leaders in the middle, we need to do our job for him and we didn’t do that for him today.

“I feel bad for him. He’s a young talent. In that little 40-minute from him last week (in reserve grade), that’s him at his best.

“He’ll learn from this and he’ll be better for it.”

Summing up the match, Saifiti said: “We just didn’t rock up with the right attitude and they did.”
