TROUBLED North Wales Crusaders have announced they are pulling out of the 1895 Cup – but insist they’ll continue in the Championship.

With players and staff unpaid for up to two months and the owners withdrawing all funding, Crusaders told opponents Midlands they did not want to play in a Cup first round match set down for this Sunday.

The Rugby Football League have acknowledged the game has been forfeited.

In a statement, Crusaders said: “After consulting with Midlands Hurricanes and considering our focus on stabalising things for the playing group and management team, we have agreed not to play the 1895 Cup fixture this weekend.

“This, we believe, will provide sufficient breathing space for the Crusaders ready for the next league fixture.”

That is against Doncaster away on Friday, May 1.
