NSW Origin reject Haumole OIakau’atu has given a humorous assessment of his approach to taking on smaller defenders in the wake of Manly’s overtime loss to Canterbury.

Olakau’atu will no doubt be under consideration for a Blues recall ahead of the deciding interstate clash with Queensland on July 8 after being overlooked for the 44-24 loss in the second game last Wednesday.

The Tonga international was asked after a 13-12 loss to Canterbury today if he relished running targeting smaller players in the defensive line.

“Not really,” he told ABC Radio.

“I just try and brace for contact … and I always ended running over them but, you know, I don’t want to sound too cocky.

“I’m just grateful to end up in the other side of that contact.”

Asked about an apparent left arm injury suffered in the Accor Stadium match, he said: “No, it’s all good – just a little stinger.

“(I) landed on it but I tried to run it off. I’ll probably feel it tonight.”
