TOM Amone may not be with Castleford Tigers for a long time, but the prop is certainly determined to ensure it is a good time after a man-of-the-match display helped them stun Hull FC 22-14 at the MKM Stadium.
The former Leigh Leopards prop returned to the Betfred Super League in April ahead of an impending move to Hull KR next year, joining Cas on a contract until the end of 2025 following his release from a short-lived stint with NRL side Canterbury Bulldogs.
Friday’s Round 14 clash saw Amone help the Tigers on their way to only their fourth Super League win of the season so far with his first try for the club, and the 28-year-old could not be happier with how life is going at his temporary home.

“I know it’s only a short stay here, but it doesn’t matter what club I play for, I want to make sure I’m putting in my best performances week in, week out,” Amone told Sky Sports.
“For the next six months I’m here, I’m going to be doing my best for Cas and that’s all I can do.
“I’m just trying to do my job for the boys. I’m enjoying my time as Cas and I’m loving every moment.”
Amone’s try came in a game where he carried for 137 metres with an average gain of seven metres per carry, making one clean break and busting six tackles.
He also led the way for Castleford in their defensive effort, making 30 tackles and missing just one, according to the Stats Perform data.
Tigers head coach Danny McGuire admitted he wished the Australian could have been tied down for longer than his short-term stay, but is delighted with the impact he has made for the team.
“We’d like to keep him, if I’m being honest, but he’s been really good,” McGuire told Sky Sports. “He’s a good professional and he’s just added some presence around the place.
“He’s respected by everybody, he goes about his business quietly and he’s done a burst of 55 minutes there without a break.
“There are not many forwards in the world who can do that and come up with quality work alongside it. He’s been a huge influence and it’s been a mark of where we want to go.
“We want to attract those type of players to the club and want to keep building around Tom. Obviously Hull KR will get that further down the line, but we’ll enjoy him while we’ve got him.”
Amone will be joining a Hull KR team which ended its 40-year wait for a major honour with victory in last Saturday’s Betfred Challenge Cup final, and is currently top of Super League.
The Robins are Castleford’s next opponents as well and Amone believes they are heading into that match full of confidence after vanquishing his future employers’ cross-city rivals on their home turf.
“We’ve been needing that win to give us confidence for the rest of the season,” Amone said.
“The boys dug in deep and I’m just grateful we got the win.”
