AFTER a controversial penalty ended his side’s season, Leeds coach Brad Arthur said: “It would have been nice to let the two teams decide the result”.
In a 14-12 win by Warrington at Headingley Stadium, Ewan Irwin’s 65th penalty goal was the difference. The win puts the Wolves into the grand final.
It happened after Rhino James McDonnell was ruled to have nudged Warrington captain George Williams as they chased a kick. Leeds appealed the penalty via the Captain’s Challenge and failed.
Arthur told Sky: “I’m really disappointed, I feel the game’s been decided by a very, very tough penalty.
“That penalty shouldn’t be deciding a game of that magnitude.
“It would have been nice to let the two teams decide the result, I reckon.”
Arthur later doubled down at his media conference, saying: “That’s a soft penalty to decide such a big game.
“It is sad we’re not talking about an individual winning the game. Instead, we’re talking about a poor decision, like a soft penalty.
“It was a fantastic game to watch. It would have been great if a team decided it.”
