IN lieu of their cancelled pre-season clash with Keighley, London Broncos held a rough-and-tumble intra-club trial yesterday – and lost two players to injury.

Hooker and long-serving Bronco Matt Davis was left kicking a dug-out in frustration at the Hazelwood Centre as he succumbed to a hamstring injury in his first days back from a calf problem. He’ll now miss the rebirth of the club under new owners Grant Weschel and Darren Lockyer, this Sunday at home to Widnes.

And Papua New Guinea halfback Gairo Voro dazzled in the semi-contact game before he was forced to sit out the final period with a foot injury.

“Jack Croft stepped on Gairo’s big toe so we’ll get a check on that but hopefully it’s not too bad,” coach Andrew Demetriou told rugbyleaguehub.com.

“(Davis) has just come back from a calf and looks like he’s tweaked his hammy which is disappointing. It was early in the session as well.

“Just come back from his calf and first full week of training he’s done his hammy. He’ll be disappointed but … it’s a long season.”

Demetriou was philosophical about the Cougar Park game being abandoned because of poor weather.

“The physicality we got out of today was pretty good – it was pretty aggressive,” Demetriou said.

“We got all our players plenty of minutes.

“…playing the trial would have been ideal because we would have got players used to the bus trip – going up north, some boys haven’t done that and we don’t have to do it for six weeks now.
