BRISBANE captain Pat Carrigan has offered his support for the left-field appointment of Darius Boyd as Queensland’s new State of Origin coach.
Boyd, one of the most famously media-shy players in rugby league history, will succeed Billy Slate as Maroons boss for the next two years.
Speaking after the Broncos wound up their unsuccessful premiership defence with a 34-20 win over Canterbury at Accor Stadium, Carrigan said: “Yeah, unreal.
“Obviously I came to the Broncos and Dars was the skipper and mate, if his coaching work ethic is anything like it was as a player, Queensland are in really good hands.
“So I’m super excited for him and I know he’ll do the role proud and if I have the opportunity to play for him next year I’ll definitely relish that role with two hands.
“So yeah, stoked for him.”
Boyd was appointed mere hours earlier, commenting: “It’s a privileged position and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
“I understand the responsibility that comes with the role as well. My job is to build on the legacy created by the many great Queensland players and coaches who have come before us.”
