LIAM Finn laid out his Super League head coach ambitions after his tenure as Huddersfield Giants’ interim boss came to an end on Thursday evening.
The former Ireland international already has experience in the top job from stints in the part-time ranks with Dewsbury Rams and Halifax Panthers, and has been holding the fort at Accu Stadium since Luke Robinson’s departure at the end of March.
Finn will now return to being part of Huddersfield’s support staff under incoming head coach Jim Lenihan, having been among the applicants to replace Robinson, but the experience leading Super League’s bottom side has only strengthened his desire to be leading a team.

“I let my interest be know, but realistically I knew it wasn’t going to be me this time around,” Finn told Sky Sports following the 26-18 defeat at home to St Helens.
“But I thought I’d put my name in the hat because I want people to know that’s where I want to be in the future and that’s what I want to do with my career.
“That’s out there, but now Jim is coming in I’m 100% behind him and looking forward to working with him.
“Hopefully I learn a few things off him and get some more experience, and add some value to this group and to him for this season – and hopefully further than that.”
Finn’s tenure began with Huddersfield chalking up their first win of the season via a stunning 34-16 triumph away to Challenge Cup finalists Wigan Warriors.
That was followed by a 34-14 win at home to promoted York Knights, but they were unable to maintain that form as the Giants were beaten by the Super League top three of Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Saints, along with Leigh Leopards.
It could hardly have been a much tougher run of fixtures Finn, who is looking forward to getting down to work with former Giants three-quarter Lenihan when the Australian arrives from Queensland Cup side Brisbane Tigers on Monday.
Nevertheless, it is an opportunity the 42-year-old has relished.
“It’s been a baptism of fire, but it’s been one I’ve really enjoyed,” Finn said.
“You’ve got to challenge yourself against the best, haven’t you?”
