NORTH Queensland’s Heilum Luki has reflected on how he and fellow casualty ward member Tom Chester fished their way back from their respective serious knee injuries
The pair is primed for the NRL finals going into the final round of the regular season, the Cowboys lying eighth on the table with 13 wins and 10 losses.
Forward Luki has suffered two ACL injuries in his short career, the most recent wrecking his 2025 season. Chester, likewise, missed all last year with a similar injury.
“I think it was really good,” Luke, 25, told ABC radio.
“We bought a boat together and got to spend a lot of time fishing on the water. I think it was a great opportunity to take our minds away from footy and give ourselves a bit of a break.
“It’s something we really enjoy doing so it’s a good little hobby.”
The Cowboys outclassed Wests Tigers on Saturday, 24-10 at home. On Saturday they host Canberra (10-13).
“It’s important that we go back we focus on what we do best and go back to play our style of footy,” Luki said.
“It’s really important that we clean up our errors and improve our discipline. If we do that, we’ll be very hard to beat.”
