HULL KR’s 104-0 Challenge Cup win over amateur side Lock Lane brought them something even last year’s treble heroics could not – a record score.

The pasting in driving rain at Sewell Group Craven Park eclipsed a 100-6 thrashing of Nottingham City in 1990 – biggest margin and biggest score – as Willie Peters’ side warmed up for the World Club Challenge on February 19 and Las Vegas nine days later.

Winger Harvey Horne, one of four debutants to score tries, brought up the century with his third in the 77th minute. Second rower Rhys Martin’s 16 goals was also a new club record.

It was 18 tries including two hat-tricks and two braces to kick off the Robins’ Challenge Cup defence.

With Mikey Lewis rested, Arthur Mourgue went into the halves and Jack Broadbent started at fullback.

Outside the starting team and looking for a way in with the WCC and Vegas ahead, Broadbent scored twice in the first half and completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute.

The treble winners led 46-0 at halftime, two Lock Lane players sent to the sin bin by referee Jack Smith for over-eagerness in defence – as in high shots.

And the Castleford amateur team still did better in the first half than Workington did against rampant St Helens in Cumbria.

Robins winger Tom Davies got the first of his two first half tries after four minutes and it was a while before the contest became anything resembling a procession.

After halftime, however, the shackles came off despite the worsening conditions.

HULL KR 104 (Broadbent 3 Horne 3 Davies 2 Charles 2 Sue Minchella Booth Lawton Gildart Mourgue Whitehead Brown tries Martin 16 goals) beat LOCK LANE 0 at Sewell Group Craven Park.
