WARRINGTON are serious challengers for the League Leaders Shield and Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis is in trouble again.
Sam Burgess’ Wolves started strongly, fell behind and then steadied the ship to win handsomely, 34-28, in a game moved to a Tuesday night from February due to the World Club Challenge.
In his second game back from delicate neck surgery, England captain George Williams dominated with a try and a player of the match award, Rovers scoring two late consolation tries to make the scoreline more respectable.
But his national selection rival Lewis, in his first game back from a head-butt suspension, was sent to the sin bin and faces another ban for taking out the legs of Ewan Irwin as he kicked the ball.
Warrington sink to fifth – making their Super League title defence an imposing challenge – while the Wolves move into League Leaders Shield calculations, just two competition points behind Leeds and Wigan.
Warrington lost Josh Thewlis to a worrying hamstring injury.
WARRINGTON 34 (Hopoate 2 Bentley Williams Byrne Sipley tries Irwin 5 goals) beat HULL KR 28 (Lewis Lawton Hadley Pangai tries Mourge 5 Martin goals) at Sewell Group Craven Park.
