THEIR coach is leaving but for Hull KR, there can be no doubt their mojo is back.
After Willie Peters declined to discuss his impending departure to the PNG Chiefs before kick-off, his players set about proving it will not derail their Super League title defence by completely dismantling St Helens.
Winger Joe Burgess posted a hat-trick at Sewell Group Craven Park in the team’s first home game of the league season – so did stand-off Mikey Lewis in a 52-10 flogging.
Before a game in which they were welcomed home from winning the Super League title and the World Club Challenge, Peters was asked about the news he is leaving for Port Moresby at the end of the season.
“I respect and understand you asking the question,” he said on Sky.
“My focus is here and what we’re doing tonight but it’s not for me to put statements out. The club will do that in time.
“My whole focus is getting a win tonight.”
It was 30-0 at halftime, that objective already achieved.
HULL KR 52 (Burgess 3 Lewis 3 Whitbread Batchelor Litten tries Lewis 8 goals) beat ST HELENS 10 (Wright Dagnall tries) at Sewell Group Craven Park.
