THE ripple effect after Manly sacked coach Anthony Seibold has begun – and it could become a tidal wave by the time it reaches other clubs.
Just three games into the Sea Eagles’ campaign – all of them home losses – Manly dispensed with the services of the 51-year-old late Friday, Sydney time.
“The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have today confirmed that head coach Anthony Seibold will depart the club effective immediately,” the statement read
“The Sea Eagles thank Anthony for his service and contribution to the club and wish him and his family all the best for the future.
“The club is disappointed with its start to the season but remains focused on making the 2026 season a success.
“The club will shortly confirm the appointment of an interim head coach for the remainder of the season.”
One theory for the timing of the club’s decision is that it may hope to head off Hull KR coach Willie Peters’ move to the PNG Chiefs, which he has already reportedly advised his players about.
Peters is a former assistant coach at Brookvale. But this seems far-fetched given that Peters’ agent, Braith Anasta, is quoted as saying the paperwork has been done and the Chiefs is the only job the Robins boss wanted.
Leeds coach Brad Arthur is another candidate while Matt Ballin – currently at Brisbane – could become caretaker before taking up the role fulltime.
If that was to occur, it would be the second assistant the Broncos have lost in week, after Ben Te’o who has resigned.
