LONDON Broncos are Super League ready after running up a cricket score in the Championship grand final against Doncaster.
The Broncos added to their 1895 Cup and League Leader’s Shield under new owners Darren Lockyer and Grant Wechsel with a 78-6 win at Plough Lane to claim the British second tier title.
They are expected to be confirmed as part of 15-team Super League in the coming weeks.
Jason Demetriou’s side cruised to a 38-0 halftime lead.
Doncaster show some enterprise and unorthodoxy in the opening exchanges, through – at one stage they deployed the rarely seen mousetrap dummy half play.
Fullback James Meadows sliced through after eight minutes from close range and halfback Dean Hawkins backed up a mid-field break to cross three minutes later.
Winger Neil Tchambambe crossed in the right corner off Brandon Webster-Mansfield’s pass and there was a nice sleight of hand for the next Broncos try.
Championship player of the year Gairo Voro rushed to the open side after a scrum win, dragging the defence with him – but the ball went the other way with centre Robert Mathias slicing through.
Then winger Elliot Wallis flew high to claim a kick and dot down before lock Saliva Havili did it all himself from near halfway – right on halftime.
From the start of the second half, London’s chase pushed Doncaster back into their own in goal on their very first carry, forcing a line dropout.
And Brandon Webster-Mansfield scored off Meadows’ grubber.
As the deluge continued, the Dons did manage a try to Luis Johnson while London’s Jack Croft was in the sin bin for obstructing a kick-chase.
Four Broncos finished with try braces.
LONDON 78 (Meadows 2 Tchamambe 2 Wallis 2 Webster-Manfield 2 Hawkins Mathias Havili O’Beirne Voro Bitungane tries Meadows 6 Voro 4 Smith goals) beat DONCASTER 6 (Johnson try Robinson goal) at Plough Lane.
