WIGAN hooker Brad O’Neill was accused of spitting in the face od St Helens rival Jack Wingfield during the Good Friday Derby, the complaint made on the field to referee Jack Smith.

As 14 players were charged over more conventional incidents during the long weekend, O’Neill learned his immediate fate.

The Match Review Committee has referred the incident for further investigation, meaning a charge can be laid at a later date.

Unlike in the NRL, the player can play in the meantime. O’Neill, therefore, can take part in the Challenge Cup clash with Wakefield this weekend unless the investigation is concluded.

Of the players charged, only Toulouse’s Joe Cator was threatened with a suspension. He copped two matches for high contact in the lively derby against Catalans.

But he does have the option to challenge the charge.
