London Broncos coach Mike Eccles says his team is flying under the radar and that’s a situation they’re happy with, as they look to earn respect.

The Broncos’ first game of the new Championship season is at home on February 5 against Batley.

The Championship is shaping up as one of the most competitive competitions in recent history.

London finished 11th in 2022 but are looking to climb the table in 2023.

“In terms of the team, they’ve trained really well,” he told rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads.

“I couldn’t ask any more from them. We’re travelling really well, and no one’s talking about London and that suits us just fine.

“Everyone wants to be in the playoffs. It’s a competitive league and I think you could argue that there’s probably 10 teams in the mix, maybe more.

“Everyone’s in the mix for relegation, everyone’s in the mix for the playoffs. It’s my job to say we’ll be better than we were last year.

“We don’t want to focus on the results because that’s where the pressure builds.

“But if we can improve our performances each week…but hopefully we’ll be in the playoffs and hopefully nowhere near relegation.”

Eccles was made permanent head coach of London in September.

“I just want the club to represent itself better this year,” he said.

“I’m determined for us to get back where we were a few years ago, around the Ealing years.

“But we have to earn that respect and that’s a very big part of this season and a big objective of mine is to put us back on the map really.

“Acquire the right people in the right positions on and off the field.”
