PAUL Rowley has apparently paid the price for a 46-0 home loss to St Helens – almost two weeks after it happened and on the eve of a derby against Wigan.
Rowley, 51, is only two-thirds of the way through his first season at BrewDog Stadium but appears to have been given the heave-ho with his team in sixth position with 12 wins and seven losses.
In a statement, the club acknowledged the injury crisis Rowley had endured but chairman Eamonn McManus expressed the belief Saints are not currently a contender for silverware.
Eamon O’Carroll takes over as caretaker coach.
“I would like to thank Paul for his commitment and extreme hard work as our head coach,” said chairman Eamonn McManus.
“He will always be warmly welcomed at the club.
“The decision was an extremely difficult one for all concerned, and we fully recognise the extra challenges that Paul faced with us this particular season.
“We as a club must now look forward and do all within our powers to preserve our position as the most successful club in the history of Super League and to restore our position as a silverware contender going forward.”
