WAKEFIELD coach Daryl Powell says he’s so loyal to his imposing bench that will overlook those players if someone drops out of the starting side.
Powell fielded a reserves list of Jazz Tevaga, Caleb Hamlin Uele, Caius Faatili and Harvey Smith on Saturday night in the 32-12 win over Catalans at Stade Gilbert Brutus.
Powell said he was determined to keep significant strike power on the bench for his second-placed side – regardless who is or isn’t in the starting side.
“It’s sort of fallen into place, really,” said Powell.
“Caleb, Caius, Harvey is obviously a pretty impressive bench and it’s been Pittsy (Jay Pitts) but it was Jazz (against Catalans) who accompanied those guys.
“Look, the game’s tough at the start. We put those boys on when it’s opened up a little bit and they’re pretty hard to handle.
“I really like them on the bench and I’ll do anything I can …. like, Tray (Lolesio) started … to keep that bench intact.
“I really like what they’re doing so that’s the way we’ve gone with it and they’re really doing a good job.”
Skipper Mike McMeeken is set to return from a back injury against Leeds tomorrow night, as will winnger Lachlan Walmsley who was rested.
It’s first versus second in one of the biggest clashes of the run home to the play-offs.
