SYDNEY Roosters have withdrawn their contract extension offer for halfback Sam Walker – the day after his Test debut – saying they couldn’t agree on the details.

“The Sydney Roosters have this evening advised the management of Sam Walker that the Club’s offer for a contract extension beyond the 2027 season has been withdrawn after the parties were unable to reach an agreement on terms,” the club stated.

“The club remains focused on maintaining a premiership-winning roster, with all recruitment and retention decisions made to support the strength, balance and long-term success of the playing squad.”

Negotiations over an extension had progressed for several months, with the Roosters having tabled what was understood to be a club-record offer in a bid to secure Walker before rival clubs could negotiate from November 1.

An earlier four-year extension worth a reported $1.1 million per season was offered in August, while the latest deal on the table by mid-October was understood to be worth $1.3 million per season with ratchet clauses that could push the annual figure to $1.5 million through to the end of the 2031 season.

Despite the significant financial commitment, the two parties failed to finalise terms on the evening of October 26.

Walker, who made his debut for Australia on October 25, is now set to enter the final year of his current deal in 2027.

The development came hours after the Canberra Raiders withdrew their multi-year offer to Hudson Young.

Walker will remain contracted to the Sydney Roosters until the end of the 2027 season
