TRAINERS getting involved in play has become such a problem in the NRL that the rules have been changed to prevent it.

Now the drama has come to the UK with London coach Jason Demetriou left fuming when play was stopped at a crucial stage of Sunday’s Challenge Cup loss to Bradford.

The Broncos were down to 12 men but still causing the Bulls problems when referee Marcus Griffiths called time out because a defender on Bradford’s line was receiving medical attention.

“We nearly score again and the game stopped for a trainer on the field, which is ridiculous,” Demetriou said in the wake of the 26-8 defeat at Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“I don’t know what a trainer’s doing on the field in the middle of a set but it was a pretty important part of the game.

“That was the only disappointing thing that came from the game for me.

“That was an opportunity for us – under a lot of pressure – to probably … a chance to score some points and we had to stop the game for two minutes for a leg injury under the posts.

“But anyway … it is what it is.”
