WARRINGTON will finish Easter on top of Super League after a crushing home win again floundering Leigh.
Even though coach Sam Burgess’ future at the club remains a mystery, the Wire were in imperious form as they raced to a 24-0 halftime lead at Halliwell Jones Stadium.
“It means absolutely nothing – history will tell you that ” coach Sam Burgess told Sky at fulltime.
“We’re not too worried about the league table … ”
Burgess added at the post-match media conference: “It’s important you don’t start falling in love with yourselves.”
That appeal was eventually rejected after a protracted investigation by video referee Liam Moore.
The rout continued after halftime, Leigh posting their only try through stand-off Adam Cook in the 64th minute.
Leopards coach Adrian Lam – whose side won all three league meetings with the Wolves last year – said: “It’s our standards and our basic principles that are letting us down at the moment.
“It doesn’t matter who pulls that jersey on, they should be at the same levels and … certainly not getting that at the moment.
“Teams are just falling straight through us and that’s hurting us but there’s still a lot of hope there … we’ve just got to minimise the bleeding at the moment.”
He said six-agains have “affected the way we defend” in 2026. With a dozen out, “I know when we get some players back, we’ll be fine.”
Warrington utility Jordy Crowther suffered a fractured cheekbone. For Leigh, Frankie Halton failed his HIA and will miss the Challenge Cup rematch with the Wolves next weekend.
Wire half Marc Sneyd said: “We got a bit sloppy in the second half which is probably us looking at the scoreboard.”
