A YORKSHIRE investment firm with a long list of rugby league creditors – including the Burrow and Sinfield families – is being liquidated after owing more than 17 and a half million pounds.
Yorkshire Ventures (Funding Solutions) had a voluntary liquidator appointed on May 19.
A statement of affairs posted publicly by Companies House on July 9 lists among its creditors R Burrow, K Sinfield, L Burrow, J Peacock, J Sinfield, J Jones-Buchanan, C Ablett, R Hall, Sinf13ld Limited, S Houghton and T Briscoe.
This indicated they were either investors or provided services for which they have not been paid in full.
The bankruptcy is a potentially tragic blow to Burrow and his wife Lindsey who are dealing with his battle with motor neurone disease – one that has captured the imagination and admiration of the UK and the rugby league world.
Burrow’s best friend and national hero Kevin Sinfield would also appear to have been stung. His son Jack is just at the start of his rugby league jersey, making the mention of ‘J Sinfield’ also problematic and worrying.
Jamie Peacock, Carl Ablett, Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Simon Haughton are well known and respected former players while Ryan Hall and Tom Briscoe are still active in the sport.
Mark Pepper is the only remaining office-holder of the company and has signed the documents related to the liquidation. The company has been operating since October 2012.
rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands a number of rugby league identities are also connected to companies that are creditors.
The balance sheet shows £17,643,336 in liabilities and just £2,364,500 in assets which can be shared by creditors.
Those figures indicate a poor return for creditors.
