WAKEFIELD Trinity may be taking a humble approach to their 2026 prospects but Catalans coach John Cartwright believes they can win Super League.
Wakey are in second place and tonight take on the only team above them, neighbours Leeds, at a sold-out DIY Kitchens Stadium.
While Wigan are openly talking about snatching the League Leaders Shield from the Rhinos, Trinity’s Daryl Powell says he’d be thrilled with a top-two finish.
But when asked if Wakey are serious contenders, Cartwright – beaten 32-12 by them last Saturday – said: “Yeah, I definitely think so.
“They don’t rely on any one or two players in particular, I don’t think.
“You know you’re playing a good side when someone can have an off night and someone else fills in and takes his spot.
“Or you might have a couple of guys not quite on their game but somebody steps up.
“They remind my of that type of side where it doesn’t matter.
“They’re hard sides to beat.”
Cartwright added that Powell’s men were also physically imposing.
“I looked at their forward pack when they ran out and thought … I knew they were a powerful side just watching them but up close they look even bigger.
“They’re gonna be a handful for anyone.”
