THERE was more nostalgic about Good Friday’s first derby than the return of Bradford-Leeds.
For a start there were interruptions to the broadcast which were reminiscent of the opening season of Super League 30 years ago.
And even when the picture was flawless, the broadcasters couldn’t disguise the 20th-century lighting.
Leeds did not need to evoke their Golden Generation to inflict Bradford’s first home loss of the season, compounded by the losses to injury of Waqa Blake and Phoenix Steinwede.
Kurt Haggerty’s team scored first via Blake in the 12th minute and at halftime the Bulls led 8-6.
But the Rhinos scored three consecutive touchdowns to take control, a late Bradford try a mere consolation.
However, it finished just four tries to three with Rowan Milnes failing to land a single goal in the 24-12 defeat.
LEEDS 24 (McDonald Bird Handley Jenkins tries Connor 3 goals) beat BRADFORD 12 (Blake Wynne Aekins tries) at Odsal Stadium. Crowd: 14,991.
