WAKEFIELD Trinity have confirmed the capture of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, their biggest signing since Wally Lewis in 1983.

The 2018 Dally M medallist and 2019 Golden Boot winner will be at the DIY Kitchens Stadium for two seasons from 2027. He is currently 32 years old.

“We were forced to do it because he puts it out there himself,” coach Daryl Powell said, in relation to Tuivasa-Sheck confirming the move on his brother’s YouTube podcast.

“It’s a little bit different.”

Powell said the connection was through agent Bruce Sharrock, who also manages current Trinity star Jazz Tevaga.

“Jazz had a chat with him so he got ‘this is the way the club is’,” the coach recounted.

In a statement on the club’s website, Tuivasa-Sheck said: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join Wakefield and compete in the Super League.

“My family and I are really excited for the move and new challenge. From the conversations I’ve had, I can see the club is heading in a really positive direction and I’m looking forward to being part of that journey.”

Powell offered: “We are delighted to bring Roger to Wakefield. We are obviously an ambitious club and signing Roger shows that once again.

“He’s a super high-quality signing for both the Super League competition and of course for Wakefield Trinity and we look forward to welcoming him into our family and helping us achieve our ambitions in the near future.”

Speaking after Friday night’s 26-14 win over York at LNER Stadium, Powell added: “I think for us, it’s an outstanding signing.

“He’s been a phenomenal player his whole career and he still is. To bring him to Super League is a great bit of business for the club.

“We clearly want to do special things at Wakefield. Matt (Ellis) and his family are clearly backing that from a financial perspective.

“For us to be a place that players like Roger will come to, we’ve done a lot of work on and off the field to make that happen.

“We’ve got a lot of water to go under the bridge. We’ve got a full season. We’re doing what we’re doing and Roger’s doing what he’s doing.

“But to announce it and show how hard we’re working to be the best we can be, I think it’s great news.”
