CODY Walker was in an emotional state when forced off during South Sydney’s knockout semi loss to Newcastle on Friday night, amid fears it would be the last game of his career.

Walker, 36, was first placed on report and then hobbled off with a calf injury as Newcastle progressed with a 20-10 win in the second elimination final at Allianz Stadium.

Walker is not contracted next season and before the game his future was uncertain.

Coach Wayne Bennett said: “He’s alright, he’s got a calf injury.

“It’s the first game he’s missed this year.”

However when ssked if Walker would be back in 2027, Bennett said: “Yeah well, we’d like him back.”

When Walker was quizzed on the issue last week, he said: “I want to go around again and I’d love to sort that out.

“All of that contract stuff for next year will sort itself out in the background. Over the last couple of years when I’ve come off contract, I’ve always left it to the back end of the year without rushing into any decision.

“So whenever the club wants to sit down with my management and talk, I’m sure they’ll work out when the time is right. But I’m happy to play on again, I’d love to play on again. We’ll just see what happens.”
