Humberside Police are searching for the man who used flares at the Hull KR match against Salford, following arrests made after anti-social behaviour at the game.
The police were called to support security staff at Craven Park Stadium in Hull on Saturday and two men were arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm following the match.
The Police said they are “aware of a male who was in possession of flares and are working with both clubs to identify and appropriately deal with him”.
“We are working closely with both clubs to establish the circumstances of the incidents, and to go through the CCTV of the incidents to identify those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call our non-emergency 101 line quoting log 549 of 16 September.
Chief Superintendent Christine Wilson said the game was marred by a small number of fans.
“We know that the majority of people who go to rugby matches just want to support their team to win, and that what was a great game for Hull KR on Saturday was marred by a small number of supporters who had the potential to cause real harm.
“Officers attended the grounds and two men were arrested, one has since been bailed whilst enquiries continue and the other has been cautioned. The third man will be identified and dealt with as soon as we can.
“We are pleased to have such strong support for our local sports teams and will be working closely with the club to ensure that matches remain safe and enjoyable experiences for all fans.”
