NEW SOUTH Wales and South Sydney suffered a crushing blow when centre Latrell Mitchell was forced to end training early with a calf injury on Monday.
The Blues had hoped 29-year-old Mitchell would play against Parramatta on Thursday and be available for selection on July 8 against Queensland, with the Origin series tied 1-1 going into the decider.
Fox Sports subsequently reported Mitchell would be ruled out for a fortnight due to the injury.
Utility back Jye Gray was left to perform pre-arranged media duties after the ill-fated training session.
“Devastating that he had to go off,” Gray told the press pack.
“You just want to see all your team-mates get out on the field and not have these injury setbacks. But he we will be back.
“We’re just hopeful, obviously we don’t know how bad anything is at the moment. Obviously devastated for him.”
