EXCITING Gold Coast youngster Arama Hau has told how he was sent to Featherstone by Mal Meninga after going “off the rails”.
Hau, a 21-year-old second rower who scored two tries in the Titans 22-14 win over St George Illawarra last Sunday, has outlived Meninga’s tenure at the club and Rovers’ time in the British game.
“He got me to the club when I was about 15, just during a south coast trial,” Hau, speaking on the ABC, said of Meninga.
“And then obviously I fell off the rails a little bit.
“He thought it best I grow up and head over to England just to mature myself, I guess, and full credit to him. He’s a good fella.”
Hau said new Titans coach Josh Hannay has pushed him to compete more and he is reaping the benefits.
The Titans play neighbours Brisbane at CBUS Super Stadium on Saturday.
In helping the Titans to their first win of the year, Hau was named player of the round on NRL.com.
He played 10 games for Featherstone in 2023 before returning to make his NRL debut with the Titans the following year.
Meninga is now at Perth Bears as head coach while Featherstone were omitted from this year’s Championship after encountering financial difficulty.
