Exclusive: The 2022 Super League grand final between St Helens and Leeds on Sky was watched by an average TV audience of 424,000 people, making it the second-highest rating grand final since at least 2011.
According to figures obtained by rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads, the grand final last weekend had a peak audience of 471,000 and the audience was up by an increase of 12% compared with the 2021 decider.
Last year St Helens beat Catalans at Old Trafford and the game was watched by an average audience of 300,000 viewers.
The 2020 final, between St Helens and Wigan and played behind closed doors at Hull FC, garnered an average audience of around 400,000.
This year’s grand final did not eclipse the audience for the 2019 decider, between St Helens and Salford, but was a very strong result and was the second most-watched match on Sky in the past 11 years.
The data can only be compared from 2010 as in that year BARB introduced a change in viewing measurement methodology.Â
The 2022 Super League grand final was the 25th that has taken place and saw Saints win a record fourth title in a row.
