Huddersfield coach Ian Watson understands supporters’ frustrations with his team’s form but has called for them to back his beleaguered side.
The Giants lost their fourth game of their past five last night, going down 30-4 at the hands of Leigh at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Huddersfield only managed a consolation try in the final two minutes and some supporters left the stadium early with the result set in stone for most of the second half.
Asked about one fan who shouted at Watson to “get out of the club”, the coach responded: “He’s always there that fella. It’s funny, if he came down to training and shouted we weren’t doing the right things, then fair enough.
“On a game day there’s nothing I can go on and impact there. So it’s pointless wasting your breath there.
“Maybe he wants to shout for the team instead and maybe get behind them because they’re doing it tough at the moment. Rather than gobbing off at me, get behind the players and support them.”
The Giants have lost their past three games in a row and now sit in 10th spot, with just four victories from 11 matches.
Watson bemoaned the absence of uinjured players such as Theo Fages, Olly Russell, Josh Jones and Ash Golding.
“I don’t want to be too critical in terms of the attack,” he said.
“We’ve not got those halves who can square defences up. You lose people like Theo and Olly, the control of the team, and you’re in trouble.
“We’re the problem and we need to be the solution. The last three weeks have been terrible from us and not good enough.
“We had a real simple game plan today. I’m at fault because I picked the team. I’m the one who makes the decisions. It’s only us who can fix it.
“Leigh are a very good attacking football team. We had to build pressure on them. We have to be patient and we weren’t, we kicked on tackle four.
“At 12-0 you could see our ruck was starting to get really quick. We needed to start the second half well but we didn’t.
“Players were over-trying and making silly errors. It kind of epitomises where we are. We didn’t have any field position really and when we did we made an error.
“The first half wounded us in what we wanted to do.”
