AFTER the respective performances of England and the United States in round one of the wheelchair World Cup, reporters found themselves looking up the record scoreline in previous internationals.
The mark was 154-6, France over by France against Wales at the previous World Cup. England’s biggest win was also against Wales, 125-22 in the same tournament.
It was apparent early in this final game of the day at WIN Entertainment Centre that England were not going to beat France’s record. But 134-0 was their biggest score and widest margin.
At one point the Americans – who were previously beaten 110-10 by Ireland – even claimed a try via Gabriel Lee.
As they celebrated, an England player stood sentry by a tag he had removed more than half a court away during the lead-up and the touchdown was chalked off by the match officials.
England, the holders, were however in irresistible form.
Three players – Luis Domingos, Chris Haynes and Mason Billington – managed personal hauls of four tries with new RFL CEO Ian Nolan in the stands.
England meets the tournament’s big improvers, Ireland, on Friday while the US clashes with Wales.
